About

I shoot the in-between.

on film

Halst, film photographer

I chose film because it doesn’t let you fake it. The grain, the warmth, the slight imperfection — that’s where the honesty lives.

I’ve spent nine years learning to disappear at a shoot — to catch the moment a half-second before anyone remembers they’re being photographed.

Every roll is developed and scanned by hand. Nothing is rushed, because the best frames rarely are.

Gear & approach

  • Medium-format and 35mm bodies, a handful of fast primes.
  • Natural light first, always. A reflector if the day insists.
  • Hand development, hand scanning, minimal retouching.
  • Direction only when you need it — otherwise I stay out of the way.
